Fine Dried Foods International, based in Santa Cruz, California, supplies companies such as Odwalla and Trader Joe's with dried fruit produced using proprietary fruit drying facilities. These drying facilities were designed and built on location at several sites in Mexico under the supervision of company owner, Rusty Brown. However, no formal documentation of the design existed, making them difficult to replicate. Over the course of three months of working with the owner and looking over part inventory forms and photographs of the on-site construction, I generated a computer model (using Rhino 3D) of the entire structure and then produced pages of diagrams dictating the assembly of each component within the structure. The diagrams now serve as the design documentation of the company's fruit drying system and were used in the construction of new facilities in Mexico and India.
